Security Policy

Traditional threats to global security have been replaced by new dangers such as terrorism and nuclear proliferation. Environmental disasters, nuclear power production and global pandemics also pose risks to civil security.

Security policy must be re-evaluated to address the changing security risks. International environmental policy is a crucial instrument in preventing conficts fomented by scarcity of natural resources and climate change. Conflict prevention has more chance of success when the basic functions of society are in order, citizens are treated equally and democracy prevails.

The Greens point out that Finland and the European Union must also bear responsibility for global security. Finland should not apply for membership in NATO.
